Best Safari Photo Spots Africa

  • Serengeti/Masai Mara eco system, Tanzania and Kenya
    • Best time to travel: all year except short rainy season from around November to December, and long rains from around March to May.
    • Animals to encounter: Big Five, largest herds of mammals on this planet on their yearly migration. Loads of lions especially in Mara.
    • Best photographic parts within park: Moru Kopjes in southern Serengeti, Seronera Valley.
    • Best places to stay: Special Camp sites. Ask your Safari company about these
    • How to get there and to get around: Driving time Nairobi to Mara: half day. Driving time Arusha to Serengeti: 8 hours. Regional Flights available from Arusha airport or from Nairobi domestic airport.
    • International travel: International airports: Nairobi International and Kilimandjaro International.
  • Chobe National Park, Botswana
    • Best time to travel: year round
    • Animals to encounter: Elephants, Wild dogs, Zebra, Giraffe, loads of birds
    • Best photographic parts within park: Chobe River Front, Savute
    • Best places to stay: Linyanti and Savute Camp sites, Lodges in Kasane
    • How to get there and to get around: Hire a 4×4 car or go with Safari companies from Kasane or Maun. Kasane is very close to Chobe Riverfront and makes an ideal base camp for daily game drives.
    • International travel: Fly to Kasane, Botswana, via Johannesburg. Or fly to Maun, Botswana, via Johannesburg. Both with Air Botswana, South African also flies to Botswana. Air Namibia has flights to Botswana from Windhuk.
  • Etosha National Park, Namibia
    • Best time to travel: year round
    • Animals to encounter: Big Five, lots of Elephants and Giraffes. Birds!
    • Best photographic parts within park: Around the waterholes, close to Fort Namutoni.
    • Best places to stay: Namutoni camp site and lodge.
    • How to get there and to get around: Driving from Windhuk takes around six hours. Etosha is ideal for self drive and Safari beginners: very good roads and road signs, easy to navigate, easy to drive.
    • International travel: Fly to Windhuk, Namibia. Direct flights from Europe depart from London and Frankfurt. Via Johannesburg with South African Airways.
  • Kruger National Park, South Africa
    • Best time to travel: year round
    • Animals to encounter: Big Five, lots of Elephants and Giraffes. Birds! And especially in Sabi sand and Sabi Sabi adjoining private Game reserves: Leopards and African Wild Dogs.
    • Best photographic parts within park: Sabi area.
    • Best places to stay: numerous lodges of all categories in and around the park
    • How to get there and to get around: Several airports close to the park can be reched from Johannesburg International Airport

    • International travel: Fly to Johannesburg, South Africa.
